Hi, I'm Dr. Becca!
I'm a board-certified pediatrician, lactation consultant (IBCLC), Christian mama of three. Just like you I'm often overwhelmed by that feeling of uncertainty with so many decisions and so much responsibility as a mom.
Here's what I know: God paired you and your newborn together, and you have what it takes to take care of your baby.
more about mewith this podclass, you will:
-
Learn about newborn health so that youā€™re capable of caring for your baby. You can say goodbye to the stress of trying to figure out every little thing.
-
Develop confidence so you can stop worrying that you are missing something big or messing everything up (spoiler on that one: youā€™re not!).
-
Carve out a balance so you can start savoring your time with your baby.

EVERY MOTHER IS DIFFERENT
Surefooted Family helps you discover and uncover your own motherhood.
Dr. Becca Susong, board-certified pediatrician, helps reduce the uncertainty and confusion surrounding newborns, postpartum, and new motherhood.

If you are like me, you thought that motherhood would be naturally intuitive. Or maybe you expected that you would be able to figure things out, just as you have tackled other jobs in the past.
The thing is, most new moms feel that they really stumbled through early motherhood. When it comes to adjusting, it can feel like being thrown in the deep end.
Your new role consumes your time, brain power, and physical strength. It feels like every time you turn around, you have another question, but you're swamped with conflicting information.
"What if I'm missing something?"
"What if I'm messing up?"
You aren't going to have time or energy to stress over every little thing or worry that a little thing is really a big thing.
On top of this... Your medical care may feel fragmented as you move from pregnancy into motherhood - this is where many moms are left behind.
As a pediatrician, I often feel disjointed as I try to support new moms. The traditional visits are often much too short and frazzled. Sometimes we get 15 minutes of choppy time together as our very first meeting - and this is often after you have hustled out of the house, across town, and through all the office hoops with a now tired, hungry baby who needs a diaper change!
You need real support, and a genuinely helpful, cohesive, curated resource to fill this gap.
yes, I need this!
I truly understand!
I had my first baby when I was in pediatrics residency, so you could say I had a jumpstart on what to expect and how to take care of my baby. But I still struggled because I didnā€™t understand two things:
1. There is so much personal growth ahead.
You are going to love the new you!
As you may have already guessed, the mom role required me to put others first, to keep showing up, and to be patient with my spouse and my needy baby. I thought I already knew something about humility, perseverance, and patience, but I had a lot to learn (and still do). The postpartum season gives you lots of opportunities to grow!
2. We learn how to become a family together.
This is more than a new to-do list.
I wasnā€™t just learning how to do the tasks a mother does. I was learning how to care for a unique little human. Simultaneously, my baby was learning how to BE a unique little human, my spouse was learning how to be a dad, and we were learning how to partner in parenting together in our new postpartum world.

Having survived the newborn period three times, I can confidently say:
I understand you, I care about you, and I can help you.

We give you bite-sized podcast lessons with timely information you can trust and a game plan you can get behind as a new mother.
Listen to the weekly sessions that match your baby's age - they include resources and videos - all that you need to know right now!
And you can also stop worrying about next week, because we've got it all covered in the next session!

My biggest challenge when I became a mother was learning how to adjust my schedule. Between caring for a newborn, sleepless nights, and endless diaper changes, finding time for self-care was extremely difficult. It made me feel stressed, anxious, and worried. I hesitated to join the podclass at first because I thought it would take a lot of that limited time, but after I signed up, I looked forward to joining the classes and listening to the podcasts, and I felt more comfortable in my abilities as a mother.

I was surprised at how thorough everything was. I loved how nice it was to be able to listen to the podcasts on my own time. I often listened to them while I breastfed my daughter, and they were very encouraging to me.
